Yeah I'm usually on the "laugh people out of the room for charging modern prices for decades old games" train, but it's clear that an absolute ton of work went into Live a Live, not the least of which was recreating it from the ground up in a totally new engine and with completely new assets for the entire game. $50 seems totally fair here.

Torna is outstanding. Feels like a perfect version of Xenoblade 2 from another dimension only shrunken down. Really makes me wish the main game wasn't marred by baffling gacha bullshit and could adopt the gameplay changes Torna made instead.

Pokemon feels like the video game equivalent of that really long stretch when the One Piece anime was disgustingly underfunded and looked like ass despite being the highest grosser in the history of the source material's medium. Very easy to understand why but much harder to understand why people are as tolerant of it as they are.

DMC isn't exactly a series that puts story front and center, but there's a pretty strong thread with Dante's character, his relationship with Vergil and the depression he wrestles with for the rest of his life that is entirely seeded through the story this game told.

Basically a love child of Link's Awakening and Castlevania with all those excellent Shovel Knight-y visuals, only this time more tuned to the Gameboy Color aesthetic. Super excited to see what these guys can do after basically spending eight years largely just building up/out Shovel Knight.

This is a really weird one for me since the story really isn't anything special at all, but the execution of it (through gameplay, visuals, music, etc) is ridiculously good. 7/10 I guess.

Heads up to people who haven't played the Nioh games, this game is almost certainly going to have fucking amazing gameplay and will be a treasure even if the story doesn't manage to gracefully straddle the line of "so stupid it's great."

Yeah people need to understand that Microsoft has straight up stopped playing the console war game and is now focused on just getting their service out through every platform possible with as many irresistible IPs as possible packed into that service. This acquisition serves the latter piece of that goal.

It's kind of fascinating to watch since Sony in recent years has been taking the exact opposite approach by continuing to work at a siloed ecosystem powered by exclusive games. Some of their very recent moves seem to be moving away from that, but we'll see!

Seems the game is actually completely out in the wild as of a few hours ago so I'm sure we'll have confirmation for those kinds of questions quite soon!

2.5 - Has really dumb twists and straight up gaping plot holes that, IIRC, resulted when the game was rewritten to be less supernatural. Hard to tell if that was the right call but the result is kind of a mess even if it is reasonably enjoyable in the moment.

Action Adventure is a sub genre I'd ascribe to Uncharted for sure. (I'd call it a third person shooter first and foremost, though)

"Puzzle" is kind of a weird genre because it refers to totally different types of games (your Tetris, Puyo Puyo and Lumines type games or your Professor Layton or Picross type games) but yeah that's definitely where you'd put Tetris broadly speaking.

New Pokemon Snap was kind of a weird experience because it showed me for... what I guess is unfortunately the first time what a modern Pokemon game can look like when there's even a drop of passion in it. I really want this to continue that trend but nothing I've seen so far gives me much reason to hope.

It would solve most, but not all, and would likely create new ones.

I assumed the Nintendo listings were part of some weird Geforce Now thing, like how Mario Galaxy is available in China via Nvidia Shield.

Flash Shift was a completely incredible combat evolution - one of the best in the series, I'd argue. I also agree that stuff like Storm Missiles, Ice Missiles, etc continuously change how you interact with enemies consistently enough, even if the way Samus "feels" is relatively consistent.

It's absolutely wild looking at how silent and borderline nonexistent Kiefer's character is compared to Norman Reedus in Death Stranding

2.22 and 3.0 + 1.0 are legitimately incredible. 3.0 + 1.0 especially so if you've been on this crazy train since the beginning.

The other movies are fine to good but definitely not on the level of the really good ones.

I would honestly argue that as much of a mess as FFXV is it still manages to end up feeling like a more "complete" story than MGSV.

Yes, absolutely remarkable successor to the original both spiritually and thematically. Tragic that it performed as bad as it did but I feel like it will at least enjoy long term recognition.

KotOR is an all-time classic for sure. Gameplay is indeed a smidge dated but everything else is still some of the best Star Wars has ever had in gaming.

Hey, I'm playing this right now! Currently in the last(?) section and yeah, the first section is so far and above the best part so far. Act 3 is at least fun so far but Act 1 was legit better than many *actual* roguelikes I've played so it's doubly weird that it's technically a fakeout.

Didn't enjoy Act 2 very much past the initial mindfuck but I don't enjoy TCG deckbuilding pretty much at all and that hurt a lot coming from how great I felt about the first part's gameplay.

Maybe I'm a weirdo but when I'm playing a video game the fucking last thing I'm thinking is "wow this is fun but what would really make it great is if I could somehow use this thing as a vehicle to engage with capitalism."

It's really not because of how utterly damaging they are - both to the environment and quite potentially to the medium at large if people take a "well just don't buy them lol" approach.

So many of these answers make me feel old since my answer is probably some actually garbage NES/SNES/64 game that barely functions.

Literally completely meaningless integration to please investors or, worse, plunge the depths of how to maximize monetization of the medium at any and all cost. Pretty much anyone seriously discussing it - or, more recently, breathlessly talking about the potential in a shocking tone-deaf manner - deserves the shitstorm that will no doubt swiftly be upon them.

None of the conditions say anything about reviews or word of mouth - are those a factor here? I don't think buying a game after vetting it through those avenues (or watching gameplay, etc) really counts as "faith" but then if they don't then I don't think I've bought a game purely on faith since I was a kid.

Currently juggling FF14, FF7R, Metroid Dread and Darkest Dungeon, so it'll be one of those! First game I'll start in 2022 will probably be Inscryption.

Blue Lions is a cool path for character development but I left it feeling like the game answered literally none of the questions the first half posed.

Nonary Games of these, but Danganronpa is the real answer.

Absolutely wild and so singular, an absolute gem of its era or any era really. I'd nearly do a backflip if a new game in this series got announced - though maybe I should avoid tempting the monkey paw with another Third Birthday.
